 The Fox and the Grapes

여우와  포도

 

One day, a fox noticed beautiful ripe grapes haning from a vine along some tree branches. The fox's mouth watered as he looked at them. The grapes hung from a high branch, so the fox had to jump to get them. He jumped, but the missed by a lot. He tried over and over again but couldn't reach the grapes. Finally, he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust. "I'm such a fool" he said . "The sour grapes aren't even worth it." Many pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.

 

어느 날, 한 여우가 나뭇가지를 따라 자란 덩굴에 매달린 아름다운 포도를 보게 되었습니다. 포도를 바라보던 여우는 입에 침이 고였습니다. 높은 가지에 포도가 매달려 있어서 여우는 그것을 따기 위해 뛰어올라야 했습니다. 뛰어봤지만, 여러 번 놓치고 말았습니다. 여러 번 시도해 봤지만, 포도에 닿을 수 없었습니다. 마침내, 여우는 주저앉아 경멸에 차서 포도를 쳐다보았습니다. "나는 매우 어리석었어" 여우가 말했습니다. "신 포도는 그만한 가치가 없어." 많은 사람들이 그들 손에 닿지 않는 것을 멸시하고 경멸하는 척 합니다.

 

in disgust 경멸에 차서

in anger 화가 나서

in a rage 발끈하여, 격분하여

not even worth it 그것은 가치가 없어

 

ripe 익은, 숙성한

despise 경멸하다

pretend ~인 척하다. ~라고 상상하다

belittle 하찮게 여기다. 깔보다. 폄하하다.
